BSF jawan accused of molesting minor

A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan has been taken into police custody in Haripal after being accused of molesting a minor girl. The complaint was lodged on Friday evening at Haripal police station by the girl’s parents.

According to the father, his daughter, a Class VII student of Bandipur High School, was returning home from tuition with her classmate when the incident occurred. He said: “While returning home, a BSF jawan in an inebriated state at Lalpur Battala suddenly held her hand and tried to drag her towards dense bushes. When she cried out for help, nearby villagers rushed to her rescue. The jawan fled towards a tribal village but was caught by locals and tied to a tree.”

Police arrived at the scene, rescued the jawan from the villagers, and placed him in custody following the complaint.

Local leaders, Becharam Manna (Singur) and Dr Karabi Manna (Haripal) staged a dharna outside the police station, demanding strict legal action. They said: “We have great respect for our jawans who safeguard the nation, but such heinous crimes against women are highly condemnable. We demand severe punishment for the accused and also call for the resignation of home minister Amit Shah.”
